This might be slighty late, but the October pick for InideWeb Movie Club is Wizard of Oz selected by James.

For me, The Wizard of Oz is one of those films that I associate with watching as a kid either at my grandparents or on TV on a bank holiday weekend. Other films in this category include Oliver, Sound of Music and Chitty Chitty bang bang, along with most Bond films starring Sean Connery.

It’s odd experience intentionally watching this film as I’ve seen it many, many times over the years, but I’ve never intentionally sat down and watched it.

While there’s many things that could be said about this film, be it from a cultural perspective, or a historical viewpoint that I know others have covered much more competently than I have, I am going to keep my association with this film as a bank holiday Monday at my parents house.

As a spin off of sorts there is also the musical Wicked, of which my sister is a massive fan, and played her copy of the soundtrack on repeat until she damaged the CD, to the point defying gravity will forever be etched in my brain.
